JANUARY, 2012
I'm looking forward to a productive year with Under Oath coming out in April. The book features the high-profile trial of a Boston crime boss and the prosecution's uphill battle dealing with Charlestown's infamous code of silence and multiple unsolved murder cases. Buddy Clancy is back on the defense with his Irish charm, bow ties, and bag of tricks. The prosecutor is Annie Fitzgerald, a stong-willed woman, who fights for all the mothers in Charlestown's Mothers Against Murder program. The victim is an artist, who appears to have been painting vivid murder scenes. I'm promising readers a real page-turner. It's also great timing with the arrest and upcoming trial of Whitey Bulger, a similar Boston crime boss accused of 19 murders.
Avram Ludwig and I will also be working on our play, Under Oath (based on my book), which we've been writing and developing with the Actor's Studio in New York City. It is a very dramatic courtroom drama. We have workshops with the cast and performed readings through the Producers and Directors Unit at the Studio. Our Monday night performances are filled to capacity and the critique afterward by some of New York's finest playwrights and directors is out of this world. I can't wait to bring the play to Boston someday.
I'm having fun co-hosting a weekly radio show on Mondays out near LA with Coach Ron Tunick. You can find us on KKZZ or through the Tune-in Radio iphone app. Look for KKZZ out of Ventura, CA. Our show is called "The Business of Life." It airs from 7 PM-9 PM Eastern Standard time and 4-6 PM West Coast time (during their evening rush hour). We have a lot of listeners driving home from LA who tune-in. You can also listen over the internet if you go to AM1400coach.com and press the listen live button. We discuss all sorts of topics such as current events, politics, law, sports, and books. Sometimes we have guests on air to talk about their books or business ventures. We especially enjoy having Joe Messina on with us. Joe grew up in Boston's North End and hosts a daily radio show called The Real Side, which can be heard on the same station from 2-4PM West Coast time. I'm having fun and will be working on bringing the show to the Boston area. It will be fun to have an East Coast/West Coast theme. I often talk about what's going on here in Boston. It will be interesting to bring the two coasts together. Let me know if you tune in and you can always suggest topics: mclean_oath@yahoo.com.
I'll be teaching law at Boston College this semester with two full classes, which meet 3 days a week. Can't wait to meet the students! I've started the third book in the Buddy Clancy series (Sarah Lynch is back). The working title is Under Treason. I'm also deep into research for a non-fiction book, which I'm very passionate about and can't wait to share. The children are all doing well in school and we're full steam ahead into the basketball season.
Please keep in touch! Send me an email and let me know what's on your mind.
